Bring your favorite movie snack and join the Smith College Club of Los Angeles virtually for a special Smiffenpoofs event!

We will be screening The Smiffenpoofs: A History of Female A Cappella with the filmmaker and Smiffenpoofs alum, Abbie Duquette '15. The short film runs approximately 25 minutes. Following the screening, we will have time for Q&A with Abbie and a few of our own LA-based Smiffenpoofs alums!

The Smiffenpoofs: A History of Female A CappellaFor well over a year and a half, Abbie Duquette collected oral histories from over 70 women, nonbinary and trans alumni producing a short film exploring the influences and trajectory of the United States’ oldest traditionally female a cappella group. The Smiffenpoofs: A History of Female A Cappella (2015) examines topics including the Women’s Rights Movement, the birth of MTV, and demographic shifts in American history.

Her work as the director, cinematographer and producer earned her highest honors and a deeper love for the 'Poof' community. The film premiered at multiple film festivals across the country including the Pasadena International Film Festival, Desert Rocks Film Festival, and the beloved Northampton Film Festival where it won "Best Film" from Smith College.

Abbie Duquette Biography: Abbie Duquette (she/they) lives in Portland, ME, where she cohabitates with her dog, Travis. She is a 2015 graduate of Smith College, where she studied music, film, and the art of ordering takeout. Abbie has since opened her own artist management company, Loudmouth Artist Management, where she works closely with musicians to fuse together her love of musicking, community, and strategy.
